Our Greed

We are prisoners, and most times our jailer is Greed. Ever thought of the selfishness in greed? Whatever we do that makes us feel guilty in anyway or brings us dissatisfaction, means that we have been selfish or greedy with either what we have or what we have taken forcefully. There was never a time been greedy brought anything good, all it has always brought is confusion. Robbers, Rapist, Hoodlums, and every other kinds of people that takes things by force without even blinking, might have a story behind their actions, but that story is not enough to take what does not belong to you, it only shows that you are greedy, selfish and wicked.

According to Margaret J. Wheatley, “In our daily life, we encounter people who are angry, deceitful, intent only on satisfying their own needs. There is so much anger, distrust, greed, and pettiness that we are losing our capacity to work well together”.

Most times I put myself in a difficult situation by asking myself questions, and I struggle to provide answers to them. It is good as humans, that we work on ourselves every day, because if greed is applied to our everyday living then there will be chaos……When we go about our everyday life, struggling to survive, trying to make ends meet, we should never let the struggles get the better part of our mind, leaving us in a complicated situation were we have to choose between good or bad, and most times the bad choices are always tempting, according to an American rapper Jay Z, he said “Lord! Forgive me I never would have made it without sin”, most of us go about our daily lives professing this, but truth is, if we had just exercised a little bit of patience, then maybe, just maybe we will rap in a different lyrics.

Judas Iscariot’s greed in the bible didn’t bring him greener pastures, it only brought him destruction, and so did several others.

We see on our roads today, how people drive so rough like they own it because they feel like the world and whatever is in it is nothing without their presence, forgetting that before them life has been and after them life will continue, but truth is, they are just been greedy, because if you feel any atom of care for someone, then been cautious will never be something you would struggle with..

Most people do the evil they do because they feel so guilty that just a second without performing such act might make them commit suicide. The suicidal cases we hear today aren’t far from that. But if we put others first, and treat others like we treat ourselves then in little or no time we shall bid greed and its followers goodbye. But as the saying goes, “you can’t give what you don’t have”, some people hate their life, so how can they treat their neighbors right? The questions we struggle with. I understand that greed is not financial or family issue but is a heart issue. In all, we hope that we are wise enough to see beyond.

Searching ourselves deep down we will find on one or two occasions where we have displayed greed to a height we now wish we never did. Been greedy doesn’t only hurt the victim but it also makes us a victim as well.

As the saying goes, we are only humans, and we are bound to make mistakes but mistakes are made to be corrected and if our greed and pride wouldn’t let us then we are failures with A+. But if we are wise enough to accept our faults, swallow our pride and subdue our greed even a little bit, then we are on the process of change. And change is inevitable. But if we must change, then, we should change for the right course.

I will like to know how you feel about this; you can comment below or contact us.
